Tuscany, Italy7 days2 people

Introduction

Tuscany is the region everyone imagined when they dreamed of Italy. It's impossible not to fall in love with its rolling hills painted in green and gold, its sculpted cypress trees against the sky, its medieval villages that resist the passage of time. Our one-week route combines the intense culture of Florence with the serenity of Chianti, the towers of San Gimignano, and the Gothic beauty of Siena. It's a trip to eat and drink well: Chianti Classico, pecorino, bistecca fiorentina, and fresh truffles. But above all, it's a trip to get lost on back roads and discover that beauty lies around every curve.

Practical tips

  • Book the Uffizi Gallery 2-3 months in advance online: it always sells out.
  • Rent a small car: Tuscan roads are narrow and winding.
  • Chianti Classico is identified by the black rooster label (Gallo Nero).
  • Best wines: Chianti Riserva (3 years aging) and Brunello di Montalcino.
  • Buy pecorino cheese in Pienza: the aged sheep cheese is the best edible souvenir.
  • There are mosquitoes in summer: bring repellent, especially at agriturismo with pool.
  • Bistecca fiorentina is served very rare (bloody). Don't ask for 'well done'.
  • Many shops and museums close on Sundays in small towns: plan accordingly.
