Egypt: From Cairo to Luxor Along the Nile in 10 Days

Egypt is a journey through time: the pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and a Nile cruise form an experience that leaves you speechless. 🇪🇬 Here's how we organized 10 perfect days in the land of the pharaohs.

Cairo: The Gateway to the Pharaohs

We landed in Cairo and the city welcomed us with its vibrant, fascinating chaos. First mandatory visit: the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. Seeing them in person is an experience no photo can capture.

The Egyptian Museum houses incredible treasures, including Tutankhamun's funerary collection. We dedicated half a day and it wasn't enough. The new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), next to the pyramids, is an architectural marvel.

The Coptic Quarter and Saladin's Citadel offer a different perspective on Cairo's history. The Mohammed Ali Mosque, with its domes and minarets, is spectacular at sunset.

Khan el-Khalili bazaar is a labyrinth of colors, aromas and sounds. Haggling is part of the experience. Hibiscus teas and spices are the best souvenirs to take home.

Nile Cruise: Temples on Every Bank

We flew to Aswan to board a 4-night Nile cruise. Watching the desert landscape glide by from the boat's deck, with temples appearing around every river bend, is mesmerizing.

The Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, sits on an island reached by felucca. The temple's nighttime illumination is magical. The Aswan Dam and the unfinished obelisk complete the city tour.

Kom Ombo surprised us: a double temple dedicated to Sobek (the crocodile god) and Horus. The mummified crocodile museum next to the temple is fascinating.

Edfu houses the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt, dedicated to Horus. Walls covered in hieroglyphics tell stories thousands of years old.

Luxor: The World's Greatest Open-Air Museum

Luxor is simply overwhelming. Karnak Temple, with its hypostyle hall of 134 giant columns, is the largest religious complex ever built. Visiting at sunrise, when golden light illuminates the hieroglyphics, is a moment you'll never forget.

The Valley of the Kings contains the tombs of the most powerful pharaohs. We entered the tomb of Ramesses VI (the ceiling paintings are incredible) and Tutankhamun's. Each tomb is a universe of color and symbolism.

The Temple of Hatshepsut, carved into the cliff face, is an architectural masterpiece. The first female pharaoh left an impressive legacy.

At sunset, a hot air balloon ride over the west bank gave us panoramic views of the temples, the Nile and the desert. The perfect finale.
